Becoming a runner

Publish a rate card, agree the terms, and be able to receive money. Then jobs can reach you.

What you are agreeing to be

You are an independent contractor running your own small delivery business, not an employee of ours or of any shop. That is not a formality — it is the actual shape of the thing.

  • You set your own prices.
  • You choose your own hours and your own service area.
  • Nothing is ever forced onto you. You decline whatever you like, as often as you like, with no consequence.
  • You use your own vehicle and carry your own costs.
  • There is no exclusivity. Drive for whoever else you want.

The three things you sign

There are three separate boxes rather than one, because one blanket agreement would let the middle one pass unread — and the middle one is the one most people have never been told.

Independent contractor
You are running your own business, on your own terms.
Insurance
Your own cover is your own responsibility. Read the next section before ticking this one.
What you may not carry
The scope limits — no alcohol, tobacco, vapes, prescriptions, or hot restaurant food.
A personal car insurance policy normally excludes delivery for hire. That means an ordinary policy may not cover you while you are on a run, and that is a real gap you should look into with your own insurer before you start — not a form to click past.

Getting set up

  1. Set up payouts, so money can reach you. The identity checks that come with it happen quietly as part of that, and there is no second check on top. Runner pay goes out by card payout only, and that is open to accounts in the United States today — so running is US-only for now, even where shops can sell.
  2. Publish a rate card. This is the act of becoming a runner — it says where you work and what you charge.
  3. Agree the terms when asked. You will be asked before any money is on the table, never in the three seconds of racing someone for a job.
If you are offered a job directly by someone before you have done any of this, claiming it will refuse and point you at the setup. That refusal is deliberate: an agreement signed mid-claim is both bad manners and worthless as a record.

What buyers see about you

Facts with dates: how many deliveries you have completed, your on-time record, when you started. Nothing that reads as a safety endorsement, because that would be a claim about you that we are in no position to make.

You also have a shop page like any other seller. Your rate card is your catalogue, your service area is your reach, and your customer book is your own.
